Magistrates’ Court fee changes as of 1 April 2024

The Magistrates’ Court (Fees) Regulations 2022 introduced a new civil fee structure with a transitional period until 1 April 2024, when MCV will begin collection of the new fees.

There are no changes to fees payable in the Industrial Division or Federal Jurisdiction.

How will this impact court users paying fees?

Currently the same fees (where applicable) are charged for all users. Under the new Regulations, fee payers will be defined as one of three types which will determine the amount payable.

The three types of fee payers are:

  • standard fee payer
  • corporate fee payer
  • concession fee payer (Health Care Card).
