Resolving a dispute

Court can be a complex and costly process. You should seek legal advice about your matter before deciding to come to court. You may also wish to speak to the other party to try and resolve the matter.

Dispute resolution involves the people and/or organisations – known as the parties – in a dispute. They talk about their problem and try to come to an agreement about how to solve it.

Parties can work out a dispute by themselves or seek help from someone who is not involved in the matter. If the dispute cannot be resolved, the parties may need to attend dispute resolution.
