Legal terms

The law is difficult and is often described in technical language. Our glossary provides short descriptions of legal words and terms you will find on this website.
O
Oath

A solemn promise made by a person before their God that they will say what is the truth, or will do what they promise to do.

Own undertaking

If you are not required to provide a deposit or a bail guarantee, you are bailed on your own undertaking. A bail guarantee means an undertaking, given by one or more other persons (bail guarantor), to pay a money to the court if you fail to comply with your bail undertaking.
